WITH more than 800 motorcyclists
registered during the day, the Webster
Qty Motorcycle Qub termed their March 1
Cycle Show an outstanding success.
Held at the Washington Central Gym in
Webster City, Iowa, this miniature motorama
consisted of thirty new models, eight antiques,
two midgets and five race and custom jobs.
A constant crowd of admirers roamed the
building inspecting them and the latest in
motorcycle accessories. They could compare
the newest 1953 machines with models from
grandfather’s day. Some dated as far back
as 1907.
Trophies were awarded to the exhibitors
of the oldest motors with the first place award
going to O. C. Jones, Harley-Davidson dealer
from Waterloo, Iowa. "Casey” Jones, as he
is known, showed his well preserved 1907
Imperial single. Second place went to Howard
Hubbard of Albert Lea, Minnesota, for his
1912 Indian racer. Harry Brown’s 1914
Harley-Davidson won third place in the
antique division. Brown came from Fort
Dodge to exhibit his old timer. Fred Bootz,
Jr., Des Moines was fourth with a 1913,
spring frame, Indian 61 twin.
Several manufacturers’ representatives
were present for the show and expressed
admiration of the manner in which the
Webster City club staged this annual show
and of the success it enjoyed, both among
the riders and the general public who were
also invited.
Following the show, a banquet for the
local AMA’ers was held at the Hotel Wilson
with 120 riders in attendance.
One of the highlights of the program was
the showing of some old films, made in the
1920’s, showing hill climb competition of
thirty years ago. Other films shown were
Daytona, Catalina, Laconia and some English
events.
Mike Wilson, Cedar Rapids H-D dealer, and
his neat cut down 125. This best of the show
midget represents 300 hours of painstaking
labor, went over big with kiddie-car set.
