Ohio Season Closes With Legion-Arrow Event
What keeps Georgie up? Nobody tries harder in any race
than George Roeder. He fights just as hard when he is in
last place as he does when leading the pack.
Rival’s view of the flying framer. Dick Klamfoth bounces
around during early practice, but this view is all his com-
petitors got of him in the state championship.
These boys are hot to trot. This opening heat anxiously
waits for the flag to drop.
Not many of us were surprised to see Dick Klamfoth lift the
Ohio Slate crown from Glenn Jordan’s head, for Dick has
been knocking off some big ones this season, and Glenn is still
off his usual top form since he recently got out of the service.
The race itself was a run-away for Dick, with George Roeder,
slightly tattered from a spill in an earlier heal, trying desperate-
ly to catch Klamfoth. Maybe if George had more steam on the
straights he wouldn't have to bend so low on the corners—or
would he slow down at all?
I he expert final was an easy win for Carroll Reswebcr, and
even though #12 finished way out in front, the crowd saw
Reswcber execute the fanciest kind of maneuvering, when he
look off at a tangent from the starting line, then whip across
the line of traffic in front, until he found the groove out in the
middle of the first corner, and just ran away from the pack!
Big surprise was newcomer Chuck Chupick’s amateur win.
This Harley rider from Detroit will give the experts fits next
year if he continues to ride the way he did in the Legion-
Arrow affair!
Even though Glenn Jordan failed to please his fan club, he
staged a private battle with Bobby Hill which was worth
coming to Columbus to watch. If anyone thinks veteran Bobby
Hill can be worried oft’ the groove by a tough, young rider like
Jordan, they should have seen how Hill refused to be budged
by a little thing like a handlebar grip in his ribs—and finished
third!
As usual, the Golden Arrow MG did a top-notch job of con-
ducting their annual race, which is co-sponsored with the
American Legion, Post 98.
First corner, first lap, amateur final shows Bart Markel leading the pack, as long
afternoon shadows indicate the day’s fun is almost over. The second head, appearing
over Bart’s, is attached firmly to the eventual winner, Chuck Chupick.
