Dusty Frazer, assistant editor of CYCLE, takes a test ride on the Skat-Kitty.
A new compact scooter, the Skat Kitty, was recently sent to
CYCLE for our staff to ride, evaluate and road test. It’s a tiny
bike with unique construction in that both fenders and rear
bumper are a part of the cast aluminum one-piece frame. It is
small and light enough (70 lbs.) to fit into the trunk of the aver-
age passenger car, boat or light plane, as the handlebars are
quickly detachable.
It is ideal for boaters, campers, students and others who are
satisfied with 25 mph. Il’s no hot rod or mountain goat, but it
does fit the needs for instant transportation. Powered by a 216
horsepower, 4-cycle Lauson engine, its centrifugal clutch gives
a surprising acceleration and power for a small job. The rope pull
starter is effective and fast-operating.
Its 410x350x4 tires have a wide tread and give a fair ride,
considering there is no fork or rear springing; the big fat low-
pressure tires absorb the road shocks surprisingly well.
Because of the small wheels the steering is very quick and it
takes a few blocks of riding to avoid over-steering. It will do
25 mph all day long without overheating, due to its forced air
cooling by flywheel fan. and it is a quiet bike. Manufactured by
