Barry's Bike, shown
here, is a perfect example of the latter.
It is every inch a show machine, and
Barry putts it regularly, sometimes on
long trucks. Most of them are to the
East Bay region south of Oakland in
San Leandro and San Lorenzo where
two of the drag image biggies hang
out—Arlen Ness and Ronnie Nunes.
Barry's Bike is a 1 972 electric start
Sportster (61 cubes) in a Century En-
terprises 4130 frame, one of two
styles made by Ronnie. The springer,
also a Century part, is 1 0 inches over,
and made of chrome moly, too.
Wheels are American Mags made
for car drag rails. He uses an 1 8-mch
wheel in front fitted with a 2.75 Avon,
and a 1 5-inch in the rear fitted with
a 5.60 Goodyear Barry did his own
setup work, but prepared wheels are
available from Century or from Kos-
man Specialties in San Francisco.
The seat is a BC Choppers creation,
the Portland custom bike shop owned
and operated by Barry. Barry also did
the engine mod work including port-
ing and polishing, 1 7s-inch S&S drag
carb, and balancing. The unique pipes
are one of a kind made by BC Chop-
pers with molded in mufflers. The rear
fender is a stock sportster that has
been widened to accommodate the
chunky tire, and had the skirt re-
moved and an edge bead built up with
lead. Engine parts and springer
springs are gold plated, and most of
the engine including heads and bar-
rels are chromed. The super well-done
paint job is by Arlen Ness...
